Executive Summary

European feedstock prices rise, with fuel and feed markets both in focus.

Used cooking oil reached €1,280–1,290 per tonne DDP Northwest Europe during the week ending 10 September, according to Fastmarkets’ report published on 15 September.

Biodiesel demand supported UCO. Poultry fat containing at most 2% free fatty acids was quoted at €1,200–1,220 per tonne DDP Northwest Europe.

These materials belong to a wider pool of oils and fats used in fuel manufacturing. EIA identifies used cooking oil, animal fats and vegetable oils as biodiesel feedstocks. The choice of input can affect the finished fuel’s properties. Renewable diesel can use similar raw materials, although its production process and the resulting fuel differ from conventional biodiesel.

A separate report published on 15 September adds context from the American vegetable-oil market. ChiniMandi, citing UkrAgroConsult’s account of USDA estimates, reported that projected U.S. soybean-oil use in biofuels for 2025/26 had increased to 14.8 billion pounds from 14.7 billion. The 2026/27 projection remained at 17.8 billion pounds. These are marketing-year estimates, rather than measured demand on the publication date or a forecast for European UCO prices.

Feed markets show a separate source of pressure. In another 15 September report, Fastmarkets described tight fishmeal availability and increased buying of alternative proteins for aquaculture. Its U.S. poultry by-product meal assessment reached $975 per short ton on 9 September. That is a protein-feed market indicator, distinct from the European poultry-fat quotations.

Delivery terms also matter when reading the European figures. Incoterms allocate transport responsibilities, costs and risks between the parties. Consequently, a delivered price and a port-based quotation need a common delivery basis before they can be compared meaningfully. The reported level is a reference for a specified market and period, rather than a universal price for every shipment.
