Evaluating a Strategic Retreat Saudi Aramco is reportedly preparing to scale back its operations in Poland. According to the „Rzeczpospolita” daily, the Saudi oil behemoth has enlisted JPMorgan Chase to explore potential asset sales, and a preliminary shortlist of three prospective buyers has already been drafted.
Industry insiders point to two primary scenarios. The first involves a complete withdrawal from the Polish market. The second, deemed much more realistic, focuses on offloading Aramco Fuels Poland, a branch that posted 18.2 billion PLN in revenues last year. The divestment could also encompass Aramco’s stakes in the Gdańsk Refinery, alongside real estate, export terminals, energy and water infrastructure, and sulfur sector holdings.
This potential retreat from the Polish market is largely attributed to tightening European Union ESG (environmental, social, and governance) regulations. It also aligns with a massive global portfolio restructuring currently being conducted by the Saudi corporation. According to Reuters, Aramco is reassessing its worldwide assets, which have an estimated total value of $50 billion.
