French President Emmanuel Macron arrives in Poland this Monday, April 20, for a series of high-level talks focused on national security and industrial cooperation. After meeting with Prime Minister Donald Tusk, the leaders are expected to sign agreements regarding military communication satellites. A major highlight of the defense agenda is the discussion on France’s offer to include Poland in its nuclear deterrence framework. This diplomatic mission coincides with the second anniversary of the Nancy Treaty, which solidified mutual defense guarantees between Paris and Warsaw.
The visit also carries significant economic weight, particularly for the energy sector. The French energy giant EDF is actively campaigning to secure the contract for Poland’s second nuclear power plant, competing against American, Korean, and Canadian rivals. Following ceremonies in Gdańsk, which include a meeting with Lech Wałęsa and a tribute at the French military cemetery, the delegation will travel to Katowice for the European Economic Congress (EEC). There, representatives from companies like TotalEnergies and Airbus will participate in the Polish-French Economic Forum to discuss industrial sovereignty and balancing climate goals with global market realities.
