Copper futures on the London Metal Exchange (LME) are on the rise following the U.S. Federal Reserve’s Wednesday monetary policy decision to keep interest rates on hold. Three-month copper contracts in London are currently valued at $13,657.00 per ton, marking a 0.6% increase.

Positive momentum is visible across other major exchanges as well. On the Comex in New York, copper is trading at $6.3740 per pound, up 0.99%. Meanwhile, on the Shanghai Futures Exchange (SHFE), the metal edged up by 0.06% to 104,850 yuan per ton.

The Fed’s decision to maintain interest rates within the 3.50–3.75% range helped ease investor concerns regarding future metal demand. Although inflation remains elevated and the central bank’s vote was not unanimous—with three out of twelve officials favoring a 25-basis-point hike—the markets reacted favorably. Analysts frequently note that higher borrowing costs typically burden economic growth and dampen industrial demand for base metals.

Despite minor losses during the previous session in London, where copper finished down at $13,581.00 per ton, the industrial metal is wrapping up July in positive territory. Since the beginning of 2026, LME copper prices have climbed by a solid 9.32%.
