What Does an Offer Image Really Show? Product Image Transparency on GTradX

Resumen ejecutivo
A product image shapes the first impression of an offer. GTradX distinguishes between images declared as actual product photos, illustrative images and AI-generated illustrations. Seller declarations and administrative classification help buyers understand how to interpret the visual material, while keeping image classification separate from verification of the goods themselves.

A photograph of a stockpile, a warehouse or packaged material can attract attention before a buyer reads the first line of an offer. It can also leave an important question unanswered: what exactly does this image represent?

In international B2B trade, that distinction matters. A buyer may interpret a picture as a photograph of the available goods, while the seller intended it only to illustrate the product category. Both parties can enter the conversation with different expectations before discussing quantity, specification or delivery.

GTradX addresses this through product image classification. It gives visual material a stated context, helping buyers assess an offer and sellers present it more clearly.

 Three types of visual material

The platform supports three classifications:

  1. **Actual product photo:** an image declared as a photograph of the product being offered.
  2. **Illustrative image:** visual material used to represent or explain the product, without presenting it as a photograph of the offered goods.
  3. **AI-generated illustration:** an image created using artificial intelligence to illustrate the product or its presentation.

Each classification answers a practical question about the role of the image. A seller can make that role clear, and a buyer can decide what further information is needed before proceeding.

The classification should be read alongside the written specification, commercial terms and supporting documentation. Together, these elements give the buyer a more useful basis for a business conversation.

From seller declaration to administrative classification

The process starts with the seller’s declaration. GTradX administration can review that declaration, confirm or adjust the classification, and record the review. The publication process can also flag an offer whose image classification still requires attention.

This gives the platform a way to manage how images are described, rather than leaving their meaning entirely to the viewer’s assumptions.

The scope of that review is specific. Image classification does not authenticate a photograph or verify the existence, ownership, quantity or availability of a cargo. A label describing an actual product photo records the image’s declared and reviewed category; it does not turn the photograph into independent evidence of the goods.

That distinction helps users understand what the platform’s labels establish and what still needs to be confirmed during their commercial assessment.

A practical example

Consider a hypothetical offer for granular sulphur. The seller uses an AI-generated image of yellow granules to make the listing easier to recognise.

With an AI-generated illustration label, the buyer can understand the picture’s purpose immediately. The conversation can then focus on the available material: its specification, packaging, quantity, location and the evidence relevant to the proposed purchase.

If the seller instead declares a photograph of the offered product, the buyer has a different starting point. Questions about when and where the photograph was taken, or which batch it represents, may help connect the image to the proposed delivery.

In both cases, clear classification supports a more precise conversation.

Clearer presentation supports better evaluation

For sellers, accurately describing visual material helps set expectations from the outset. For buyers, it reduces the need to guess whether an image is descriptive, illustrative or generated.

This reflects a broader GTradX principle: useful commercial information includes both the content and enough context to interpret it. Product images are part of that information.

When preparing your next offer, check that its images and their classification match the way you want to present the product. When reviewing an offer, use that classification to guide the questions you ask before moving forward.
