The armed conflict in regions essential for gas extraction and urea production has severely destabilized the nitrogen fertilizer market. The costs of these vital agricultural inputs are rising rapidly, pushing many farms to the brink of unprofitability. To accurately assess the current costs of urea, ammonium nitrate, and UAN solutions, we collected data from approximately twenty distributors across Poland. The figures below represent average gross prices (excluding discounts), which we have compared against data from last month and last year.
Grupa Azoty Offerings
According to our findings, fertilizers from Grupa Azoty are currently priced as follows:
- Pulan ammonium nitrate: 2170 PLN/t (505 EUR/t). The price remains at the mid-April level, though a year ago it was 1950 PLN/t (453 EUR/t).
- Zaksan / Megan 33.5: 2100 PLN/t (488 EUR/t) – unchanged from last month, priced at 1950 PLN/t (453 EUR/t) a year ago.
- Pulrea urea (with urease inhibitor): 3400 PLN/t (791 EUR/t). This is a noticeable increase from mid-April (3280 PLN/t / 763 EUR/t) and a drastic jump compared to last year (2500 PLN/t / 581 EUR/t).
- Saletrzak 27 (CAN): 1950 PLN/t (453 EUR/t). The price has been stable for two months, but is higher than last year’s 1850 PLN/t (430 EUR/t).
- Saletrosan 26 plus: 1950 PLN/t (453 EUR/t). In April, it cost 2030 PLN/t (472 EUR/t), and a year ago, 1800 PLN/t (419 EUR/t).
- UAN (RSM) 28: 1800 PLN/t (419 EUR/t). No changes for two months; a year ago it was valued at 1550 PLN/t (360 EUR/t).
- UAN (RSM) 32: 2030 PLN/t (472 EUR/t). Consistent with mid-March levels; last year it cost 1750 PLN/t (407 EUR/t).
Anwil Products and Imported Fertilizers
Products from Anwil (Orlen Group), the second key player in Poland, and imported goods present the following picture:
- Anwistar ammonium nitrate: 2130 PLN/t (495 EUR/t). A slight increase from 2110 PLN/t (491 EUR/t) in April; last year it was 1900 PLN/t (442 EUR/t).
- Canwil CAN: 1870 PLN/t (435 EUR/t). A minor drop from the April level of 1900 PLN/t (442 EUR/t); a year ago farmers paid 1700 PLN/t (395 EUR/t).
- Imported urea (usually without inhibitor): 3060 PLN/t (712 EUR/t). It has become 180 PLN (42 EUR) more expensive compared to last month; last year it cost only 2000 PLN/t (465 EUR/t).
- Imported ammonium nitrate: 1810 PLN/t (421 EUR/t). In the middle of last month, it was 1730 PLN/t (402 EUR/t), and a year ago – 1700 PLN/t (395 EUR/t).
- Imported CAN: 1660 PLN/t (386 EUR/t). A slight increase compared to April (1620 PLN/t / 377 EUR/t) and last year (1600 PLN/t / 372 EUR/t).
Market Outlook
The fertilizer market landscape remains highly concerning. The time to plan inventory for the next season is approaching, and the prospects for price drops are minimal. While prices for ammonium nitrate and UAN solutions have plateaued at high levels, urea continues to become more expensive. Since the outbreak of the war in Iran, its price has jumped by nearly 40 percent. Given that urea is the foundation of global fertilization, its declining financial accessibility could severely threaten the global food market. The last time we saw such high rates for urea was in February 2023.
It is also important to remember that the presented data are average values. The final price depends on the region and the size of the order. Among the most expensive suppliers, base prices start at up to 3600 PLN/t (837 EUR/t) for urea, 2350 PLN/t (547 EUR/t) for ammonium nitrate, and 2200 PLN/t (512 EUR/t) for UAN 32.
